October 2020

Just a little update from us at WASTE2TASTE.

As you know, for the past 7 months we have been committed to #OX4FREEFOODCREW cooking up free meals from our lovely kitchen for those worst affected in Oxford by COVID-19.

During this time, we have provided more than 4000 cooked meals with the support of Ark-T ,Oxfordfoodbank, SOFEA, Bucksum and HappyCakesuk in partnership with Flosoxford and Oxforhub. Prioritising people over 70’s and with underlying conditions, isolated, single parents, homeless and vulnerably housed adults.

As numbers have increased we will continue to supply these meals for the months ahead. Aiming to supply 200 free meals a week.

Please do get in touch if you know anyone who could benefit from these meals.

Our much-loved community café @Ark-t Centre has now opened its doors , and we are so happy to be back.

These have been unprecedented times, especially for small businesses like us who have lost 100% of our income from external catering and café. More than ever we need your help to recover.

Please do get in touch with us if you need any external catering service or are able to support our work somehow, with surplus veg from your allotment, cleaning products, volunteering, takeaway boxes or with a small donation towards the cost of a home cooked meal.

We are Community focused, so we will keep doing just that!

This is the time for us to get together with kindness and respect to help others to the best of our abilities.

We are all in this together!

Please be safe.

Providing free cooked meals for those who need it: Since April 2020 during COVID-19 Crisis

Cooking with Love! | News from our kitchen |

Since we started the project on the 7th April Waste2Taste alone have provided :
- 2500 meals to present date (1st August)
- Delivered 30 food Parcels to those who need it.
- Made 40 + welfare phone calls per week to people living alone providing 4 hrs of support each week and have been setting up 'Cooking Bag Challenges'

When we closed our doors on 17th March we had one of our ‘Cooking for Health and Wellbeing' courses up and running.
It was sad that the group had to be postpone as they were bonded and enjoying the sessions.

We have kept in touch with the participants through a Whatsapp group and phone calls.
We have been sending them  a bag of ingredients with a recipe,  they make the meal and send us photographs of the process and end results. This is proving to be a real hit, great fun and keeps their minds occupied.

The OX4 Free Food Crew  is a brand new partnership between Ark-T, Waste2Taste Flo’s – The Place in the Park, and Oxford Hub, which we have set up to alleviate food poverty for people affected by COVID-19.

On Wednesday and Saturdays Flo’s will be providing cooked meals from 12pm-2pm from Flo’s The Place in the Park, Rymers Lane, OX43JZ

On Tuesday and Thursdays Wate 2 Taste will be providing cooked meals between 12pm-2pm from The Venue on Barnes Road.

Oxford Hub are organising distribution through their networks to the people who need it most at this time- those who are vulnerable or self isolating.

If you know someone in need of a cooked meal please phone 07957105129  or use the online referral link here.

Out of isolation!

Tuesday the 17th March was a very sad day for us at Waste2Taste.
When we should have been celebrating 3 Years in business, we were in fact closing the café. All external catering jobs were cancelled and our workshops for homeless and vulnerably housed adults had to be put on hold, to protect ourselves, our staff, volunteers and our beloved friends and customers.

Waste2Taste is now slowly and safely coming out of isolation!

We have spent the past 3 weeks feeling sadness and worry, Watching the national and International news going from bad to worse. We have of course had some beautiful moments, it has given us time to stop and think, spend time with our families, eating, drinking, cooking and enjoying the wonderful walks in our beautiful Oxford.

Fortunately, we are both healthy, in good shape and eager to shake off our negatives and put our skills to best use. We are Community focused, so let’s do just that!

FROM TUESDAY 7TH OF APRIL we are putting our aprons back on and cooking again. The two of us will be safely cocooned in our kitchen at Ark-T where we will be cooking a free vegetarian boxed meal for homeless, isolated, vulnerable or low-income members of our community. We are joining forces with ARK-T, Oxford Together and Flo’s the place in the Park.

FOOD WILL BE AVAILABLE through The Cowley Community Larder
operating @ The Venue 242B Barns Road OX4 3RQ.

Tuesday 11am to 2pm and Thursdays 11am to 2pm

We are in this together till the End

Our dear friends @ Oxford Food Bank sadly closed their base on Friday 27th March. We wish them our love and look forward to seeing them again soon.

Our surplus during this difficult period will come from our great friends at Bucksum Farm and Oxford City Farm. SOFEA have also kindly offered to supply us with fresh surplus food.

This is the time for us to get together with kindness and respect to help others to the best of our abilities. We are all in this together. We will keep you regularly updated and tell you more on how you can help as well. For now, please be safe
